Recently, according to the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, from January to December 2023, the increase in China's charging infrastructure was 3.386 million units, a year-on-year increase of 30.6%. Among them, the increase in public charging piles was 929000 units, a year-on-year increase of 42.7%, and the increase in private charging piles built with vehicles was 2.458 million units, a year-on-year increase of 26.6%.

With the gradual increase in the share of new energy vehicles, there is a great demand for charging piles in the future new energy vehicle industry. In 2023, the sales of new energy vehicles in China were 9.495 million, and the incremental ratio of charging piles to new energy vehicles was 1:2.8.

But with the increase in sales of new energy vehicles, there is also the problem of difficult charging for car owners. Now, the problem of difficult charging for new energy vehicles has begun to become prominent, especially during holidays and long-distance travel, which is the peak period for charging new energy vehicles. There is often a situation where "one pile is difficult to obtain", and such problems can only be solved by increasing the number of charging piles.

At present, many charging companies are actively responding to the call and following the trend of new energy vehicles going to rural areas, starting to layout charging pile supporting facilities. Therefore, there is still a lot of room for growth in the number of public charging piles in the coming years.

Behind the charging of new energy vehicles is a big business. Many new energy vehicle brands have started to build their own brand operated charging stations and build their own charging networks. Some brands have opened their charging stations to the outside world and have started the business of charging new energy vehicles through cooperation. For example, Tesla's number of charging stations has exceeded 50000, and through cooperation, some models under General Motors and Ford are allowed to connect.

From 2021 to 2023, China's power generation was 8.5 trillion kilowatt hours, 8.4 trillion kilowatt hours, and 807 million kilowatt hours respectively, which were basically in a stable state. However, the sales of new energy vehicles in 2021 to 2023 were 3.521 million, 6.887 million, and 9.495 million, respectively. New energy vehicles are growing rapidly, so the problem of charging new energy vehicles may become more acute with the increase of the number of new energy vehicles.

EV

The increase in the number of electric vehicles is due to an increase in electricity consumption, but during peak electricity consumption periods, it is difficult to achieve a supply-demand balance between the charging of new energy vehicles, residential electricity, and industrial electricity.

Some charging station companies encourage electric vehicle users to charge off peak hours or reduce the amount of electric vehicle charging by increasing the cost of charging. Even some companies have started pilot projects of electric vehicles discharging in reverse at charging stations, providing certain subsidies to car owners, but the current results are not ideal.

Moreover, when a dual gun is used simultaneously, there may be power grabbing issues that require improvement from the charging station builder.

China is currently the largest producer and seller of new energy vehicles. Compared to foreign countries, the number of new energy vehicles and charging stations is far ahead. A strong power grid and low electricity costs are the guarantees for the development of new energy vehicles. The increase in charging stations for new energy vehicles undoubtedly has a great promoting effect on the sales of new energy vehicles, but the problems that come with it still need to be solved effectively
