PT Ilectra Motor Group, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing arm of coal miner Indika Energy, has launched a fully electric, mass-produced motorcycle in Indonesia, bringing the government closer to its goal of turning the country into a global EV player. The Alva One motorcycle, classified as a battery electric vehicle (BEV), will be produced in a manufacturing plant in Cikarang, West Java, which has an annual output of 100,000 vehicles. “Seeing the great potential in the development of electric vehicles in Indonesia [...] PT Ilectra Motor Group [is seizing] the opportunity to launch the Alva One,” Purbaja Pantja, president director of Ilectra Motor Group, told reporters at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday.
Indonesia currently holds the highest two-wheeler ownership penetration in the world at around 42 percent – based on the number of vehicles owned per 100 of the population – and is the third largest market for two-wheelers in general, with 6 million motorcycles sold annually.
