CHAdeMO is the official standard in Japan, and virtually all DC fast chargers in Japan use a CHAdeMO connector. It's different in North America, where the only manufacturers currently selling electric vehicles that use the CHAdeMO connector are Nissan and Mitsubishi.
The Nissan Leaf uses two charging standards for its inlets – Type 2 and CHAdeMO. The Type 2 inlet is used when charging at home or at public slow and fast AC points. The CHAdeMO inlet is used to carry high power during rapid DC charging from a CHAdeMO connector.
Note that the Leaf continues to use a CHAdeMO charging connection, while the new Ariya adopts the more popular CCS connection used by most other automakers.
The launch of the spectacular new all-electric Ariya SUV by Nissan represents a new era for the company but also it might symbolise the beginning of the end for CHAdeMO charging solution, at least in Europe and America.
CHAdeMO chargers are being phased out (Except in Japan).
